Job description

Chief Financial Officer

Who are The Profs?

The Profs is an award-winning (Education Investor's Edtech Provider of the year 2024) and innovative EdTech business providing higher education tutoring and admissions consulting to clients and institutions around the world.

Our company

Founded by two brothers with a view to pairing tutors with technology to help students achieve their personal goals, we are headquartered in London and have grown to a 40 strong team split across sales, marketing, tech and operation

We work predominantly in a B2C capacity and connect students, typically 16-24 years old, and/or their parents with professional private tutors to help them get the results they need to progress in life. We also have a small number of B2B clients including the University of Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College London among others.

Last year we connected over 10,000 students with our 1,000 freelance tutors. 90%+ of our survey respondents tell us they get their desired grades and into the preferred universities.

As such, we are the highest rated tutoring company on Trustpilot and have won numerous awards. These include British Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Forbes 30 under 30, the UK's top tutoring company and best Edtech company.

About the role

The Profs Group partnered with EY and are preparing to go to market for a major investment round. As such, we are looking for an experienced CFO or Financial Director to support the founders in creating an ambitious, realistic business strategy and financial model, as well as a fundraising strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development

  • Partner with the founders to translate vision into a detailed, costed business strategy.
  • Identify growth opportunities, resource requirements, competitive positioning, and strategic milestones.
  • Help define the platform's market positioning and validate its strengths and differentiators.
  • Building financial forecasts and relevant models to predict an ambitious growth plan.

Fundraising & Investor Pitch Preparation

  • Work alongside EY to craft compelling investor materials: business plan, financial model, investor deck, and Confidential Information Memorandum (CIM).
  • Ensure financial narratives align with commercial strategy and market opportunity.
  • Bring clarity and simplicity to complex ideas to resonate with prospective investors.

Investor Engagement & Due Diligence

  • Act as a key point of contact for investor-related queries and due diligence processes.
  • Support the team in compiling data rooms, addressing investor requests, and ensuring transparency and readiness throughout the fundraising process.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience as CFO, Finance Director, or senior finance lead in a growth-stage or scaling business.
  • Demonstrated success in preparing and executing investor fundraising rounds (Seed to Series B and beyond).
  • Strong strategic, commercial, and financial modelling skills.
  • Experience working with or alongside investment banks, corporate finance teams, or Big Four advisors.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities - both financial and narrative.
