Job summary

Mistral AI is seeking a founding Engineering Team Lead for storage on our sovereign AI cloud. You will build the storage stack (block, file, object) and guide capacity planning across datacenters from day one.

Initially hands-on with early hires, you will transition to people leadership, defining growth paths and owning strategic storage decisions for a scalable European compute infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of real people leadership managing engineers.
• 8+ years building backend or infrastructure systems.
• Built storage systems (object, block, or distributed filesystems).
• Shipped production systems in Go and worked with Go tooling.
• Strong knowledge of durability, replication, and failure domains in distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Stand up the storage stack for training, sandbox, and general compute workloads.
• Make build-vs-buy decisions; deploy/harden vendor platforms or write Go services where needed.
• Own the data plane: allocation, duplication, tiering, backup and recovery, S3 APIs.
• Plan capacity across datacenters and failure domains — petabytes scale.
• Build the team from zero: hire, onboard, coach, and set growth paths.
• Partner with Product Managers to shape storage roadmap and tradeoffs.
