Job summary

Southend University Hospital NHS Trust seeks a Foundation Year 2 doctor for Acute Medicine on a 12-month fixed term basis to cover maternity leave until 25 January 2027. The post is designed to develop junior doctors’ generic skills and works with Foundation Year 1 training posts.

Mentorship and access to education resources are provided. The role offers exposure to acute medicine, multi-disciplinary teams, and a structured PGME environment within a Trust that provides a supportive learning

Qualifications

MBBS (or equivalent) and Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
12-month fixed term maternity cover for Foundation Year 2
Allocated educational mentor support

Responsibilities

Develop enhanced clinical skills in assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
Follow patients through their clinical pathways.
Gain experience in general practice and interface with primary/secondary care.
Improve communication with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
Improve IT competencies and use of evidence and data.
Keep accurate records and complete discharge summaries.
Liaise with nurses, junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior staff.
Participate in rostered emergency and on-call work.
Complete administrative duties including letters, results and discharge summaries.
Undertake audits and attend weekly education sessions.
