Job summary

Swansea City AFC is seeking a proactive Foundation Phase Coach to lead coaching and development for U9–U12 players, combining hands-on coaching with phase-wide leadership. You will align sessions with the club’s playing philosophy and long‑term player development plan, while mentoring FP coaches and supporting staff development.

The role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, CPD delivery, and advancement through coaching qualifications.

Qualifications

• Hold FA Advanced Youth Award
• Minimum of 3 years working within an EPPP Academy environment
• Experience mentoring, line managing and leading other coaches
• Strong understanding of long‑term player development principles and age‑appropriate coaching methodology
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage players, parents and staff effectively
• Up to date safeguarding certification and enhanced background check (e.g. DBS)
• First Aid certification (e.g. EFAiF or FRS Level 2)
• Degree in Sports Coaching or Teaching
• Experience delivering workshops or CPD sessions to coaching staff and parents
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Knowledge of EPPP system and audit process

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality training sessions that align with the Academy’s game principles and player development philosophy across FP.
• Lead a designated FP age group, including matchday coaching, team selection and in-game management.
• Ensure FP coaching aligns with the Academy’s principles and development philosophy.
• Oversee weekly and seasonal training, fixtures and tournaments for the FP.
• Conduct 6-weekly reviews for FP players and progress meetings with parents/guardians and YDP coaches.
• Line manage and mentor FP coaches with regular 1:1s and CPD sessions.
• Support coaches in qualification pathways (UEFA badges) and identify development opportunities.
• Foster collaborative coaching culture and participate in recruitment of FP staff.
