Job summary

Orbital Industries is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineering Lead to build and lead the FDE function, delivering complex deployments hand‑on while developing a scalable team across diverse scientific and engineering domains.

You will own the technical standards, delivery model, and engineering practices, collaborating closely with customers to translate high-value R&D problems into pragmatic architectures and milestones.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in enterprise software delivery with forward deployed engineering.
• Experience building a forward deployed engineering function and leading teams.
• Ability to move fluidly between strategy conversations with R&D leadership and debugging with engineers.
• A track record of succeeding in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with evolving requirements.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and respected technical judgment.
• Genuine interest in building software for breakthrough scientific/industrial applications.

Responsibilities

• Deliver deployments hands-on across the breadth of industrial R&D.
• Drive customer adoption so CurieOS becomes the standard workflow.
• Write production code, design architectures, build integrations, debug across CurieOS and customer systems.
• Own the technical quality from prototype to production including reliability and maintainability.
• Design systems that connect software, data and physical infrastructure.
• Develop reusable integration patterns for CurieOS in complex environments.
• Own engagement from discovery through deployment and adoption.
• Set KPIs per engagement and report outcomes to sponsors.
• Build and lead the Forward Deployed Engineering team and standards.
