Job summary

RedTech is seeking an experienced Forward Deployed Engineer to blend hands-on software engineering with client consultancy, owning projects from discovery to deployment and integration of bespoke AI-assisted solutions.

The role is home-based with travel to London approximately 3 to 4 days per week and attendance at the Cambridge office at least once per month. Salary £75,000 to £90,000 per annum plus private medical insurance, dental cover and a performance-related bonus.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience as a full-stack software engineer delivering production-quality code.
• Experience gathering requirements and translating client problems into technical solutions.
• Proficiency in at least one major language (Python, Java, C#, C++).
• Strong client-facing experience and ability to present to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own client engagements from discovery through delivery and deployment.
• Interview users and stakeholders to map processes and identify inefficiencies.
• Run workshops and explain technical solutions to non-technical audiences.
• Design and build bespoke full-stack AI-assisted software solutions.
• Integrate new solutions into clients’ existing systems and workflows.
• Train client teams and support adoption of new technology.
• Measure outcomes to ensure delivered solutions meet objectives.
• Develop ongoing relationships and pursue renewal opportunities.

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Forward Deployed Engineer to join a growing specialist AI consultancy. This is a rare opportunity to combine hands‑on software engineering with client consultancy, taking ownership of projects from initial discovery through to building, deploying and integrating bespoke AI‑assisted solutions. You will work directly with senior stakeholders to understand their processes, identify valuable opportunities for automation and turn those ideas into reliable software used within live business environments.

Location: Home-based with travel to London client sites approximately 3 to 4 days per week and attendance at the Cambridge office at least once per month. All travel fares to client sites will be reimbursed.

Salary: £75,000 to £90,000 per annum + private medical insurance, dental cover and performance-related bonus

Requirements for Forward Deployed Engineer:

• Strong commercial experience as a full-stack Software Engineer, with the ability to build, understand and review production-quality code
  
• Proficiency in at least one established programming language such as Python, Java, C# or C++
  
• A degree in Computer Science, ideally achieving a 2:1 or First
  
• Strong client-facing experience, which may have been gained within software consultancy, solutions engineering, implementation, technical delivery or a software company
  
• Experience gathering requirements, understanding business processes and translating client problems into practical technical solutions
  
• Confident presenting technical concepts to senior stakeholders and non-technical audiences
  
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools while retaining a strong understanding of the underlying code
  
• Strong full-stack capability rather than experience limited to a highly specialised or low-level area of software engineering
  
• Excellent communication, questioning and problem-solving skills
  
• Comfortable travelling regularly to client sites in London
  
• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial, but is not essential
  

Responsibilities for Forward Deployed Engineer:

• Own client engagements from initial discovery through to delivery, deployment and ongoing improvement
  
• Interview users, operational teams and senior stakeholders to understand existing processes and identify inefficiencies
  
• Run workshops and clearly explain proposed technical solutions to non-technical audiences
  
• Assess where AI and automation can deliver measurable operational or commercial value
  
• Design and build bespoke full-stack software solutions using AI-assisted development tools
  
• Review, understand and take responsibility for all code produced
  
• Integrate new solutions into clients’ existing systems, workflows and live environments
  
• Train client teams and support the successful adoption of new technology
  
• Measure whether delivered solutions have achieved the intended outcomes
  
• Build trusted client relationships and identify further opportunities to improve or automate their operations
  
• Progress towards managing client renewals and independently leading multiple engagements
