Job summary

UFORCE is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to ensure systems work reliably in real-world environments, bridging Engineering, Product, Operations, and Customer Success. You will own technical execution in the field and diagnose issues with limited time, tools, and backup, traveling to deploy and support complex platforms.

You will operate across software, electronics, hardware, and comms, translating field realities into engineering actions and providing clear technical feedback to customers

About the Role

We're hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to make our systems work reliably in real-world deployed environments, not just in controlled engineering settings. This role closes the gap between Engineering, Product, Operations, Customer Success, and the customer — owning technical execution in the field, catching issues early, and turning field reality into clear engineering action.

You'll need to be comfortable operating across domains rather than as a single-discipline specialist: reasoning practically across software, electronics, hardware, comms, and operations, and diagnosing issues with whatever time, tools, and backup are actually available onsite. Expect regular travel and field time, hands-on work outside a narrow job description, and close collaboration with Engineering, Product, Operations, and Customer Success.

Responsibilities

• Own technical execution in the field — deploying, troubleshooting, and supporting systems in real-world environments outside the lab.

• Diagnose and resolve issues across domains without needing everything translated by specialists, using structured fault-finding under real-world time and resource constraints.

• Prepare for deployments and field activity — checklists, spares, tools, documentation, and readiness checks — to make field operations faster and more repeatable.

• Capture and translate field observations into clear engineering feedback, closing the gap between what's built, what's deployed, and what the customer needs.

• Support demonstrations, trials, and customer-facing technical activity, representing the technical team credibly in front of customers and operators.

• Build working relationships across Engineering, Product, Operations, and Customer Success, and pitch in on practical, hands-on tasks outside a narrow job description when needed.

Requirements

Must-have:

• Systems-minded engineering judgment — can explain interfaces, dependencies, and trade-offs across a complex technical system, and reason practically across software, electronics, hardware, and comms.

• Practical field troubleshooting experience — has diagnosed and solved technical problems in deployed or operational environments (field, workshop, lab, customer site, military, maritime, robotics, aerospace, or automotive settings) with limited time, tools, or backup.

• Deployed operational discipline — has prepared equipment, documentation, checklists, spares, or field processes ahead of operational activity, and is willing and able to travel and work outside a narrow discipline.

• Clear technical communication — can capture faults, risks, and observations clearly, and explain technical issues to both specialists and non-specialists.

• Cross-functional, high-ownership, low-ego team behavior — comfortable supporting hands-on tasks outside a formal role description to help a deployment or event succeed.

• SME-level depth in at least one relevant technical domain — for example software/embedded systems, electronics/comms, or hardware/mechanical systems.

• Customer-facing technical confidence — has represented a technical team in customer-, operator-, or field-facing settings.

Nice-to-have:

• Background in defence, maritime, robotics, aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability deployed systems.

• Working technical depth across more than one domain (e.g., software and electronics, or electronics and mechanical systems).
