Job summary

The Institute of AI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to sit between staff engineers, solutions architects and technical founders. You will embed with client teams, identify real problems, and build enduring AI-enabled solutions across varied industries.

You will design modern AI platforms and integrate AI into legacy systems, data, and organisational constraints, delivering value in production while traveling to sites in the UK as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with production systems experience.
• Proficiency in Python and Typescript and at least one other modern language.
• Experience designing, building and operating production AI systems from architecture to deployment.
• Experience delivering software on AWS/Azure using CI/CD practices.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and make sensible technical trade-offs.
• Good engineering judgement and ability to balance AI use with practicality.
• Strong communication skills with clients and executives.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery from discovery through to production, owning outcomes.
• Embed with client teams to understand systems and constraints, designing fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Design and build production AI systems, from LLM applications to enterprise integrations.
• Integrate AI systems with existing enterprise software, databases, APIs and identity platforms.
• Deploy, operate and improve production AI systems across cloud, architecture and data pipelines.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineering teams and senior stakeholders.
• Turn successful engagements into reusable tooling and engineering patterns.
