Job summary

Shillito Group in Sheffield is recruiting a Crane and Forge Operative to join a well established heavy engineering business. You will move large materials safely, support despatch and help keep production running smoothly, with opportunities to learn across crane operations, heat treatment, forging and wider manufacturing.

Ideal candidates will have experience with overhead/ pendant cranes, slinging, lifting, forklift operation or despatch. Reliability, safety focus and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with crane, slinging, despatch or material handling is preferred.
• Ability to work in heavy engineering environments and follow safety procedures.
• Willingness to learn and develop across crane operations, heat treatment and forging.

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead cab cranes.
• Operate pendant and remote-controlled cranes.
• Carry out slinging duties.
• Load and unload material using cranes and forklift trucks.
• Complete pre-shift crane checks.
• Prepare material for despatch.
• Complete despatch paperwork.
• Inspect incoming material and record inspection data.
• Update the internal computer system.
• Support heat treatment operations.
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards.

Crane and Forge Operative

Sheffield

Rotating shifts: 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm

Shillito Group are recruiting for a Crane and Forge Operative to join a well established heavy engineering business in Sheffield.

This is a strong opportunity for someone with crane, slinging, despatch or material handling experience who wants to build a proper long term career.

You will be working across the forge and heat treatment departments, moving large materials safely, supporting despatch operations and helping keep production running smoothly. As you build your experience, there will be opportunities to develop your skills across crane operations, heat treatment, forging and other areas of the wider manufacturing operation.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating overhead cab cranes
• Operating pendant and remote-controlled cranes
• Carrying out slinging duties
• Loading and unloading material using cranes and forklift trucks
• Completing pre shift crane checks
• Preparing material for despatch
• Completing despatch paperwork
• Inspecting incoming material
• Recording inspection information for subcontract work
• Updating the internal computer system
• Supporting heat treatment operations
• Maintaining high housekeeping and safety standards

This is not a role where you will be left doing the same task every day. The business is keen to train and develop people who show the right attitude, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility and progress into more skilled work over time.

About you

You will ideally have experience in one or more of the following:

• Overhead or pendant crane operation would be desirable
• Slinging and lifting
• Forklift truck operation
• Despatch or material handling
• Heavy engineering, steel, forging or manufacturing

You do not need to tick every box, but you will need to be reliable, safety-conscious and willing to learn.

Good timekeeping, attention to detail and pride in your work are important. You will also need to be comfortable working as part of a team and following strict safety procedures.
