Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Forest School Leader to work within a primary school in Penwortham, Preston starting in September 2026 to inspire children through outdoor learning experiences that foster independence, confidence, and a love for nature. In this role, you will lead engaging forest school sessions, creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore, learn, and develop essential life skills. Your leadership will encourage curiosity and resilience while promoting environmental awareness and early childhood development. Duties
  • Plan and deliver engaging outdoor learning activities tailored to children’s developmental needs
  • Supervise children during forest school sessions, ensuring safety and well-being at all times
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages curiosity, teamwork, and independence
  • Maintain clear communication with parents, colleagues, and external partners regarding children’s progress and needs
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols for all outdoor activities
  • Manage the day-to‑day operations of forest school sessions, including setting up equipment and resources
  • Support children’s emotional development by promoting confidence‑building activities and environmental stewardship
Skills
  • Proven management and leadership skills to guide groups of children effectively
  • Experience working with children in primary school environments
  • Forest School Accreditation
  • Strong communication skills in English to clearly convey instructions and feedback
  • Ability to foster a safe, supportive environment that promotes learning through play outdoors
  • Excellent organizational skills for planning activities and managing daily routines
  • Valid driving license to facilitate transportation or outdoor excursions when necessary
