Job summary

Natural Resources Wales is seeking a technical lead for Timber Harvesting and Forest Management to drive sustainable forest management across the Welsh Government Woodland Estate. You will translate policy into practical on-the-ground approaches and lead policy development with NRW and Welsh Government partners.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Welsh and UK legislation and policy drivers related to forestry and sustainable forest management.
• Experience with timber harvesting operations and/or sustainable forest management.
• Understanding of stakeholders in the UK forestry sector and collaboration with partners.
• Project management experience and/or qualifications.
• Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or working towards membership.
• Welsh language level essential: A1.

Responsibilities

• Lead and project manage complex issues to develop NRW policies, strategies and programmes.
• Maintain ownership of forest operations policy to ensure UKWAS compliance and industry standards.
• Commission and deliver monitoring procedures and audits.
• Identify knowledge gaps, commission resources and training; manage projects per the programme.
• Maintain knowledge of the forestry sector and implications of regulatory changes.
• Lead or contribute to cross‑functional groups to produce defined outputs.
• Collaborate with the Team Leader to deliver personal objectives.
• Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.
• Support NRW equal opportunities and diversity policy and development plans.
• Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade.
