Job overview

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic registered mental health nurse to join our forensic community mental health team on a fixed term basis up until 20/06/2026.

The primary function of this role is to coordinate and provide expert care and support to patients in high and medium secure mental health settings.

This challenging yet rewarding position requires a compassionate and committed professional who can contribute to the treatment and recovery of individuals with complex mental health needs who have come into contact with the criminal justice system.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced nursing care and treatment to patients in high and medium secure mental health settings.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients, develop care plans, and monitor their progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and others.
  • Utilise evidence-based practice and clinical expertise to deliver high-quality care to individuals with complex mental health disorders.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and other relevant forums to ensure effective communication and coordination of care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of clinical services, promoting best practice in forensic nursing.

Offer support, guidance, and education to patients and their families, empowering them to be active partners in the treatment process.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Degree level qualification with evidence of Post Graduate study in relevant area
  • Current UK NMC registration
  • Relevant masters level qualification or working towards this
  • Leadership or Management training/qualification
Experience
  • Experience of working within a range of mental health settings and specialist knowlede of working in forensic care
  • Experience at Band 6 or equivalent senior clincial level
  • Broad experience of working across in-patient and community mental health settings
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience of care co-ordination and commisioning processes

  • Ability to work autonomously under own initiative with minimal supervision
