Job summary

Mountain Healthcare seeks Forensic Custody Healthcare Professionals (RGNs and Paramedics) to deliver specialist care in police custody in Carlisle. You will assess detainees, provide urgent care, and support safeguarding decisions with autonomy. Full accredited training is provided and shifts may include nights.

You will work in a distinctive clinical environment, collaborating with custody teams, police, and NHS partners to ensure high-quality care and evidential documentation.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with NMC registration or Paramedic with HCPC registration.
• Minimum three years' post-qualification experience in an acute setting.
• Ability to work autonomously in a custody environment and follow training.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points.
• Eligibility to work in the UK and three years' residency prior to application.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fitness for detention assessments and related tasks.
• Manage medical emergencies in a fast-paced custody environment.
• Support detainees with mental health needs and substance misuse.
• Collect and document forensic samples and injury records.
• Prepare statements and attend court as a healthcare witness.
• Liaise with custody teams and police for safe onward care.
• Attend hospital blood procedures under the Road Traffic Act.
