Job summary

Nrl is seeking an experienced Foreman to lead site operations at Teesworks, Redcar. You will supervise direct labour, gangs and subcontractors, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to high quality standards on a major infrastructure project.

The role requires strong leadership, HSE focus and proven experience managing on-site teams within civil engineering. Labour planning, QA, and toolbox briefings are essential; long-term work through to December 2026.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as Foreman on civil engineering projects.
  • Experience supervising direct labour and subcontractors.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Ability to run toolbox talks and site briefings.
  • Experience with resource planning and progress tracking.
  • Understanding of ITPs and QA processes.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Foreman to join a major construction project at Teesworks, Redcar. The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and control of site operations, managing gangs, direct labour and subcontractors, while ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-profile project with a long-term contract through to December 2026.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate site activities, including direct labour, gangers, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and current legislation.
  • Promote and maintain a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture with a focus on Zero Harm.
  • Assist in the preparation of Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments, Task Briefing Sheets, and Toolbox Talks.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Monitor plant, equipment, and tools to ensure suitability and safe operation.
  • Manage daily site activities and chair short interval control meetings.
  • Monitor workforce productivity, quality standards, and programme targets.
  • Support quality assurance activities, including inspections and completion of QA records.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, inspection and test plans, and contractual requirements.
  • Report non-conformances and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams regarding setting out requirements, permits to break ground, and lifting operations.
  • Maintain accurate labour, plant, and site records.
  • Monitor progress against programme milestones and KPIs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Ensure a "Right First Time" culture is embedded across the workforce and supply chain.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Foreman within the civil engineering or construction sector.
  • Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors on site.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to deliver effective Toolbox Talks and site briefings.
  • Experience with resource planning and allocation.
  • Knowledge of construction specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements.
  • Understanding of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of site activities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS qualification.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience working on large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Background in earthworks, deep drainage, or reinforced concrete construction.
  • Experience managing key programme milestones and critical construction activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage project scope and identify additional works opportunities.
  • Experience working within strict programme deadlines and fast-paced project environments.
