Job summary

VolkerRail seeks a proactive Foreman to lead site teams across rail projects. You will manage resources, drive safety, and ensure work is delivered to high standards with strong collaboration with clients and subcontractors.

The role requires a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between Doncaster, Sheffield, Scunthorpe and other key locations. You will report to the Urban Transport & Rail Projects division and contribute to successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Foreman, Team Leader, or supervisor in rail or construction.
• Strong leadership to organise resources and motivate teams.
• Solid understanding of health, safety and quality on site.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving with clients and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise on-site teams including direct labour and subcontractors.
• Deliver work packages safely, to programme, quality and budget.
• Ensure activities meet safety and quality standards.
• Follow instructions from Project Managers and Safety Managers.
• Drive productivity and performance on site to meet objectives.
• Manage site discipline and promote a positive safety culture.
• Conduct safety inspections and support investigations.
• Prepare weekly reports on site activities.
• Identify training needs and support competence management.
• Build relationships with stakeholders and clients.

Doncaster, Sheffield or Scunthorpe region to support travel to key locations. A full driving licence and willingness to travel are essential. As a Foreman within our Metro & Rail Projects team, you will play a vital role in the safe, efficient and successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects. Leading site teams and coordinating resources, you will ensure work is completed to the highest standards of safety, quality and performance.

Responsibilities

• Leading and supervising site-based teams, including direct labour, subcontractors and plant operators.
• Delivering allocated work packages in line with safety, quality, programme and budget
• Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with company safety and quality
• Implementing instructions issued by Project Managers, Safety Managers and clients.
• Driving productivity and performance on site to achieve project objectives.
• Managing site discipline and promoting a positive safety culture through visible leadership and leading by example.
• Conducting safety inspections, reporting findings and supporting accident and incident investigations.
• Preparing weekly reports on contractual site activities.
• Identifying training and development needs within your team and supporting competence management.
• Building effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors, clients and other key stakeholders.
• Supporting the Supervisor or Senior Foreman when required and contributing to the successful delivery of projects across the business.

Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience in a Foreman, Team Leader or supervisory role within rail, construction or a related operational environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to organise resources, allocate work and motivate teams to perform at their best.
• A thorough understanding of health, safety and quality requirements within a site-based environment.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with colleagues, subcontractors and clients.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities whilst maintaining high standards of safety, quality and productivity.
• A proactive approach to identifying risks, resolving issues and driving continuous improvement.
• A commitment to promoting safe working practices and fostering a positive team culture.
• Flexibility to work across a variety of project locations and environments.
• A full UK driving licence
