Job summary

Salford City Academy is seeking a Food Technology Technician to support the teaching and learning in the Food Technology Department. You will prepare ingredients and equipment, maintain rooms to high standards, manage stock, order supplies, and ensure health and safety compliance.

The successful candidate will be reliable, proactive, able to work independently and in a team, with a passion for food and strong organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist teaching staff in developing resources for teaching and learning.
• Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met under the Faculty Leader.
• Assist with administrative duties in accordance with Teacher workload agreement.
• Maintain and monitor consumables and equipment in catering.
• Promote and raise the profile of catering within and outside the Academy.
• Shop for and weigh ingredients for Food & Hospitality.
• Write, update and maintain risk assessments for the catering department.
• Order and chase up supplies.

Job Purpose

To support the effective and efficient teaching and learning in the Food Technology Department

We are looking for a passionate, organised, and proactive Food Technology Technician to join our thriving Design and Technology department at Salford City Academy. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning by preparing ingredients and equipment, maintaining food technology rooms to the highest standards, managing stock and ordering supplies, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. We are seeking someone who is reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A passion for food, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to supporting students in achieving their potential are essential. Previous experience in a food technology, catering, or school-based environment would be advantageous, although training will be provided for the right candidate. Above all, we are looking for an individual who shares our commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience for every student.

Key responsibilities

• To assist Catering Teaching staff in developing appropriate resources for teaching and learning.
• To ensure that all Health & Safety requirements are met under the direction of the Faculty Leader.
• To assist in administrative duties in accordance with Teacher workload agreement.
• To maintain and monitor consumables and equipment in catering to ensure all pupils are able to access a wide range of materials and processes as part of their catering provision.
• To assist teaching staff in promoting and raising the profile of catering within and outside the Academy.
• To shop for and weigh out ingredients for Food & Hospitality.
• To write, update and maintain risk assessments for the catering department.
• To be responsible for ordering and chasing up orders.
• To be prepared to source resources, consumables and equipment at short notice.
• To organise and run after school events such as open evenings where Food & Hospitality can be promoted. Providing interactive activities.
• To be prepared to work with small groups on curriculum projects such as catch up lessons for students.
• Plan, shop for and run enrichment activities.
• Ensure food areas such as sinks, cookers and worktops are kept clean, hygienic and tidy.
• To confidently and safely use all workshop machinery and support teaching staff.
• To use knowledge and experience to implement effective systems that increase the efficiency of practical rooms and workshops.
• To confidently liaise between all departments, parents and students.
• To maintain and store stock in a tidy and user friendly manner.
• To ensure all aprons, towels and t towels are laundered and fit for purpose.
• To prepare examples of work specific to food projects.
• To ensure any equipment that requires regular servicing is up to date.
• To update the school food plan with curriculum developments where necessary.
• To assist in the department with reprographic needs.
• To assist in maintenance of all copiers, servicing and meter readings.

Key Tasks

• To prepare materials and equipment for practical lessons.
• To maintain equipment in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
• Carry out weekly Health & Safety checks on all equipment and report directly to the Faculty Leader.
• To write, update and maintain Risk and COSSH assessments

General

• To have due regard for data protection, confidentiality and Health and Safety policies
• To undertake appropriate training as required
• To undertake any other duties which may be assigned to the post from time to time as directed by the Associate Principal
