Job summary

Morrisons offers a 3-year Food Technology Degree Apprenticeship, rotating through our technical teams to build hands-on food manufacturing expertise while studying toward a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Food Technology Management at Sheffield Hallam University.

You’ll balance work with university study, undertake early starts and weekend shifts, and gain exposure to a broad range of food safety, quality and legality duties across our sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum 96 UCAS points and GCSE Grade 4 in Maths and English.
• A Level in Food Technology or a science-based subject is preferred.
• Must have a full UK driving licence and be able to travel between locations.

Responsibilities

• Rotate across our Food Technology teams over 3 years to gain hands-on experience.
• Support at Flowerworld manufacturing site during peak trading times.
• Collaborate with production teams and the Technical Systems Manager to understand processes and develop procedures.

Job description

As a Food Technical Degree Apprentice, you’ll play a huge part in making sure people can get the food they need. You’ll spend 3-years rotating between teams in our Food Technology function, developing new skills and working towards a degree while preparing for a brilliant career within our unique food retail business, and we’ll pay your course fees!

Join us as a Food Technology Degree Apprentice and play an important role in helping us maintain the highest standards of Food Safety, Food Quality and Legality across our manufacturing sites. Over the 3-year programme, you’ll rotate through a range of our technical teams, gaining hands-on experience and building your food manufacturing knowledge and leadership skills. Responsibilities you could take on during the scheme include:

• Providing support at our Flowerworld manufacturing site at peak trading times, such as Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day
• Working closely with production teams to understand how production lines run and the impact they make across our business
• Working with our Technical Systems Manager to understand product specifications, write procedures and develop existing systems

As well as learning on-the-job, you’ll also be studying towards a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Food Technology Management at Sheffield Hallam University. Balancing work and a degree course will be challenging. To support your learning, we'll offer study leave to complete university work stress free.

This role involves early starts, late finishes, night shifts and working weekends and Bank Holidays. Some placements may be shift-based, particularly during peak trading periods. It’s hard work for sure. But it’s also very rewarding. Every day is different, and we’ll support you every step of the way.

What you need to join us

Recently achieved or being predicted a minimum of 96 UCAS points and having achieved GCSE Grade 4 in Maths and English are needed for this programme. Ideally, you'll also have studied Food Technology or a science-based subject at A Level. Sitting at the heart of our business, it’s important you’re comfortable making decisions and can work well in a team. Our Food Technical Degree Apprentices also need a few key attributes to succeed, which include:
