Job summary

Huntingdonshire District Council is seeking a Food & Safety Officer on a fixed-term contract. You will manage a caseload covering food hygiene and health and safety, working to support Environmental Health Officers in a small team and progressing toward the Food Safety Practitioner (CIEH) qualification.

The role includes interpreting legislation, guiding businesses and the public, and prioritising workload to meet deadlines. Hybrid working with attendance two days a week is expected.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to deal with a wide range of customers, including businesses, the public and partner agencies
• Ability to interpret legislation and guidance to resolve complaints and advise customers
• Strong organisational skills, with deadlines met and high customer service maintained
• Willingness to learn and apply learning

Responsibilities

• Carry own caseload in food hygiene and health and safety
• Support Environmental Health Officers in a small team
• Carry out food safety and health and safety interventions across a wide range of work
• Interpret legislation and guidance to resolve complaints
• Give guidance to businesses, members of the public and partner agencies
• Prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
• Help the council maintain good control and compliance with statutory obligations
• Develop competencies in line with the Food Standards Agency Competency Standard
