Job summary

Alexander Steele in Lancashire is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer to maintain production equipment, perform planned and reactive maintenance and reduce downtime. The role focuses on improving reliability and supporting site development.

Key responsibilities include preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, supporting line availability, and keeping detailed maintenance records. The ideal candidate has electrical and mechanical expertise and experience in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• A recognised Level 3 engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent.
• Strong experience in electrical and mechanical fault finding and maintenance.
• Experience within a food manufacturing, FMCG or similar fast-paced production environment.
• Good knowledge of machinery safety, isolation procedures and LOTO.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations where applicable.
• A proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
• Experience with PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding/fabrication, refrigeration, compressed air or other site services would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across a range of production and packaging equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime.
• Support production teams to maximise line availability, efficiency and output.
• Identify recurring machinery faults and proactively implement solutions to improve reliability.
• Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, maintenance activities and PPMs.
• Support machinery upgrades, improvement projects and wider site development.
• Manage spare parts requirements and maintain appropriate stock levels.
• Carry out general building and ancillary maintenance where required.
• Communicate technical issues effectively with production and other departments.
• Work to strict food safety, hygiene, health & safety and GMP standards.
