Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Flood Risk Engineer to join a growing consultancy in Bedford. You will develop flood risk assessments and drainage strategies from planning to design, working with civil engineers, planners and external consultants.

You will contribute to site layouts and masterplans, ensuring drainage and flood risk are integrated into the design, while developing professionally in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Degree in civil engineering or equivalent experience.
• Good understanding of UK drainage and flood risk guidance.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroDrainage, Flow, MicroStation and Microsoft Office.
• Experience preparing drainage or flood risk reports.
• Strong written, verbal and client communication skills.
• Proactive, organised and able to manage changing project demands.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments for planning applications.
• Produce surface water and foul water drainage strategies.
• Model drainage networks using MicroDrainage or Flow.
• Provide drainage and flood risk advice to support masterplanning.
• Liaise with clients, council officers and third‑party consultants.
• Support multiple live projects and contribute to team coordination.
