Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal or Associate to join our Water team. You’ll lead real-time flood forecasting projects, develop and calibrate models, and mentor junior staff while expanding our services with the Environment Agency and beyond.

This role focuses on flood forecasting but also offers opportunities in wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling. You’ll collaborate with engineers across disciplines, deliver high-quality reports, and contribute to tenders in a dynamic, hybrid-working

Qualifications

Significant experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller).
Strong knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood forecasting systems.
Proven ability to apply and calibrate hydrological models (Muskingum-Cunge, PDM).
Excellent analytical skills with hydrometric data processing and gauge reviews.

Responsibilities

Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports.
Develop, calibrate, and check flood forecasting models (e.g. PDM, Flood Modeller).
Carry out non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, FEH methods.
Produce and review high-quality technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties.
Lead and contribute to tenders for key clients.
Mentor and support team members in their professional development.
Build strong relationships with clients and colleagues across disciplines.
