Responsibilities

  • Hold a small caseload and conduct person-centred and psychologically informed key working sessions.
  • Support clients to manage diagnoses with holistic strategies for emotional, practical and housing needs.
  • Support medication compliance of clients.
  • Assist clients to attend statutory appointments for mental health treatments.
  • Provide housing advice to help maintain tenancies and explain rights and responsibilities.
  • Support upskilling for daily living, budgeting, bill and household management.
  • Help clients access activities for greater independence in the wider community.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to assess/address client needs.
  • Record all client contacts accurately on policy-compliant databases.
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns and incidents to minimise risk.

Job description

Central Recruitment is working with a London-based charity dedicated to preventing homelessness and supporting individuals in rebuilding their lives.

Our client is currently recruiting for a Floating Support Worker to work in the Islington area at a service that provides flexible housing-related support in order to enable clients to continue to live independently within their own home, regardless of tenure type.

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday
  • Core working hours: 10:00 - 17:00
  • Temporary: approx. 2 months
  • £16.69 per hour (£14.89 per hour, with £1.80 holiday pay)

Please note: you will be required to travel across the Islington area supporting clients within the community and their own homes (travel expenses can be claimed). This role involves lone working.

Key responsibilities:
  • Hold a small caseload and carry out person-centred and psychologically informed key working sessions
  • Support clients to manage their diagnosis by implementing holistic support strategies that also aim to address their emotional, practical and housing management needs
  • Support medication compliance of clients
  • Support clients to attend statutory appointments to comply with mental health treatments
  • Provide housing advice to clients for them to maintain their tenancies including advising clients of their rights and responsibilities as well as advocating on their behalf if necessary
  • Support clients to upskill regarding daily living skills, to enable them to sustain their accommodation independently, including bill management and household management
  • Support clients to access activities which will assist them in working towards gaining greater independence within the wider community
  • Work in partnership with other departments and external agencies to ensure that client needs are assessed and addressed appropriately
  • Ensure all client contacts are recorded appropriately and accurately on the database and in line with policy and procedures
  • Minimise risks to clients by identifying, reporting and following up any safeguarding concerns and incidents
What we're looking for:
  • Experience supporting people with mental health issues to live independently in the community
  • Experience and/or understanding of the range of approaches appropriate to working with issues such as substance use, mental and physical ill health, dual diagnosis, challenging behaviour, risk of homelessness, offending, antisocial behaviour, social isolation, domestic violence, gang-related issues, young parents, leaving care and learning disabilities
  • Understanding of how to support clients to carry out tasks such as budgeting, calculating benefit entitlements and understanding rent arrears and housing options
  • Experience of working in a client-centred support service working with vulnerable people presenting significant levels of need and risk
  • The ability to devise and deliver on action plans through high quality risk management and needs assessment
  • The ability to effectively liaise with a range of service providers and agencies to establish or improve services for clients
  • A good and current understanding of safeguarding issues and the ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessments
  • The ability to work within a strength and recovery-based model and engage and motivate people to move towards an appropriate level of independence and inclusion
Further requirements:

In order to register with Central Recruitment Services for temporary agency work, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Current valid right to work in the UK
  • Minimum 12 months' of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years* (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise)
  • A fully enhanced DBS either registered on the DBS update service or issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £60)
  • Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process
