Job summary

Lockheed Martin UK Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to support RAF Cranwell and Barkston Heath, ensuring Synthetic Training Equipment and simulators remain available for training. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs and preventive maintenance across host computers, visuals, control loading and associated electronics.

The role requires strong electronics knowledge, ability to interpret schematics, and proficiency with test gear.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of flight simulator maintenance or transferable aircraft engineering experience.
  • Ability to read schematics, drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of digital and analogue electronics.
  • Qualified in soldering techniques.
  • Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, generators, analyzers).
  • Capable of calibrating, installing, maintaining and testing flight simulators.
  • Strong PC skills (MS Office).
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Willing to work flexible shifts, nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to obtain Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance support for Synthetic Training Equipment and related training gear.
  • Perform fault isolation, repairs, checks and preventive maintenance on simulators and host systems.
  • Conduct technical analysis of product implementations, focusing on reliability and logistics.
  • Troubleshoot issues and propose technical solutions with customer alignment.
  • Comply with Health & Safety and QA standards within STE environment.
  • Perform daily flight servicing to ensure equipment availability for training.
  • Carry out scheduled and corrective maintenance to meet performance objectives.
  • Repair unserviceable equipment removed from STE when appropriate.
  • Support Post Design Services (PDS) modifications.
  • Execute other tasks as required by the Simulator Site Manager.
  • Complete all documentation to required QA standards.

About The Role

Lockheed Martin UK Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) is a leading provider of training and logistics support for military customers. RMS is a key partner in delivering the Military Flying Training Service (MFTS). This role is located at RAF Cranwell and Barkston Heath in support of MFTS delivering Multi Engine, Elementary and Rear Crew flying training to Military students. Normal business will involve maintaining the simulators during the core working day. This can be either at RAF Cranwell or RAF Barkston Heath.

  • Provide maintenance support of the Synthetic Training Equipment (STE), and associated training equipment.
  • Perform advanced fault isolation, repair, operational checks, and preventive maintenance actions of simulators and associated training systems, to include host computers, visual display systems, electric control loading systems, computer networks, and associated electronic equipment.
  • Conduct technical analysis of product implementations to include reliability, maintainability and logistical analysis.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and issues, determine technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommend actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solutions
  • Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations and Quality Assurance plans and policies within the Synthetic Training Equipment environment.
  • Perform Daily Flight Servicing to ensure that Synthetic Training Equipment is available to meet the training programme.
  • Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance to ensure that Synthetic Training Equipment performance objectives are achieved.
  • When appropriate, carry out repairs to unserviceable equipment removed from the STE.
  • Provide support and assistance during Post Design Services (PDS) modifications.
  • Perform any other task which can reasonably be expected by the Simulator Site Manager.
  • Complete all documentation related to work carried out. Ensure that documentation is completed to the required standard, in order to comply with current company quality assurance standards.

Required Skills
  • 2-3 years Flight Simulator experience or transferrable Aircraft Engineering Experience. With the demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical electronics engineering tasks, with at least a minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, drawings and electrical wire diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of both digital and analogue electronic theories.
  • Qualified in soldering techniques.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with the use of test equipment; to include Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Logic Analysers, Frequency Analysers, and DVM’s.
  • Able to calibrate, install, maintain, repair, and test flight simulator(s) and associated support equipment.
  • Knowledgeable and accomplished in the use of personal computers; to include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent Communication and Technical writing skills are a must.
  • Able to work flexible shifts that include nights and weekends as required.
  • Requires ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
Desirable But Not Essential Skills
  • Experience in Distributed Training and Mission Rehearsal operations.
  • Experience with Image Generators and Visual Display Systems.
  • Experience with aircrew training devices (flight simulators).
  • Experience with live, virtual, constructive training.
  • Knowledge of UK regulatory environment and qualification testing
