Job summary

Kent County Council is seeking a reliable Multi-Skilled Operative (handyperson) to oversee upkeep and maintenance of council properties across Kent, including Ashford and Sittingbourne. This part-time, six-month fixed-term contract offers 18.5 hours per week with flexible days.

You will perform general repairs, maintenance tasks, safety checks, cleaning of communal areas, basic gardening, and assist with security and resident interactions, reporting to the Building Officer.

Qualifications

• Caretaking or property management experience preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to handle minor repairs and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Daily maintenance: undertake general repairs and maintenance around the building, inside and out.
• Inspecting and maintaining heating, cooling, lighting, and alarm systems.
• Security: ensure the property is secure and assist with unlock/lock as necessary.
• Property management: report maintenance needs and coordinate contractors.
• Resident/visitor relations: provide a helpful, friendly service to staff, visitors and residents.
• Keep equipment in good condition and ensure inventories are up to date.
• Cleaning communal areas with onsite cleaning team and supervising tidiness.
• Gardening and landscaping: maintain flowerbeds and outdoor spaces.
