Job summary

St Luke's Hospice Sheffield is seeking a friendly Hospitality Assistant to deliver warm, patient-focused hospitality across the hospice, supporting patients, families and staff. You will help serve meals, maintain cleanliness, work with clinical teams, and participate in handovers and volunteer supervision; up to 30 hours per week with flexible scheduling.

Training and safety are integral, with opportunities to develop skills in food service and customer care.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices.
• Good knowledge of food and beverage service.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to undertake physical aspects of the role.
• Willingness to undertake training and continuous development.

Responsibilities

• Providing a warm, friendly and professional hospitality service to patients, visitors, volunteers and staff.
• Serving food, drinks and refreshments across the hospice.
• Supporting patients with meal and drink choices, taking account of dietary requirements and preferences.
• Working closely with catering and clinical teams to ensure patient needs are met safely and effectively.
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, infection prevention and health and safety.
• Cleaning, replenishing and maintaining café, beverage and hospitality areas.
• Processing cash and card payments using the till system.
• Monitoring stock levels and ensuring hospitality areas remain well supplied.
• Carrying out daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
• Reporting equipment faults and maintenance issues promptly.
• Participating in team handovers and communicating relevant information appropriately.
• Supporting the induction and ongoing guidance of volunteers and new team members when required.
