Job summary

St Luke's Hospice is seeking a Bank Kitchen Assistant to support our catering team in preparing nutritious meals for patients, staff and visitors. The role includes assisting with plating, stock rotation and adherence to hygiene standards as part of a collaborative service in a hospital setting.

The position offers ad-hoc shifts with typical hours 7:30am–3:30pm or 11am–7pm, and may require early starts, evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a kitchen, catering or food preparation setting or strong interest in hospitality.
• Hold, or be willing to obtain, a Level 2 Food Hygiene in Catering or equivalent.
• Demonstrate practical food preparation skills, attention to detail and ability to follow recipes.
• Organised, reliable and able to work well in a team under time constraints.
• Good communication and a positive, flexible approach to work.

Responsibilities

• Support preparation of ingredients and simple meal components according to recipes and portion controls.
• Assist with plating, portioning and serving meals following hygiene and dietary guidelines.
• Carry out basic food prep tasks: washing, peeling, chopping and weighing ingredients safely.
• Ensure correct storage, labeling and rotation of stock to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
• Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and compliance with Food Hygiene Regulations.
