About the Role

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work closely with our Registered Nurses and multidisciplinary team to provide high standards of care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. You'll support patients and their families by helping to meet their physical, emotional and psychological needs while promoting dignity, independence and choice at all times.

This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a specialist palliative care team where compassion, kindness and person-centred care are at the heart of everything we do. You'll play an important role in ensuring patients receive the highest standard of support throughout their journey with St Luke's.

This role is for 24 hours a week.

About You

You will be a compassionate and reliable individual with a genuine desire to care for others. You'll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team while recognising the importance of maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality and respect.

You will be comfortable working with patients who have life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families through challenging times. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is desirable, but most importantly you'll share our values and demonstrate a caring, professional and positive approach to patient care.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting patients with their physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centred care.
  • Monitoring patients' wellbeing and reporting any changes or concerns to the Registered Nurse.
  • Assisting with moving and handling patients safely and appropriately.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, clean and supportive clinical environment.
  • Supporting the effective use of clinical equipment and resources.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participating in the care of patients and families following bereavement.
  • Maintaining accurate records and updating clinical systems when required.
  • Supporting the induction and development of new team members.
  • Taking part in training and ongoing professional development.
What We're Looking For
  • NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare, or relevant healthcare experience.
  • Awareness and understanding of the needs of palliative care patients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
  • Ability to work with patients living with life-limiting illnesses and their carers.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and dignity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring approach.
  • Commitment to providing high standards of patient care and service.
