Job summary

Furnace House Surgery is seeking a salaried GP to join a seven‑partner practice serving around 15,000 patients. The role focuses on managing undifferentiated caseloads through surgery and telephone consultations, with home visits, repeat prescribing, and on‑call duties.

Qualifications

• Full and unrestricted GMC registration.
• Membership of a medical defence body.
• Inclusion on a local performers list.
• Commitment to lifelong learning and audit.
• Annual appraisal and accreditation evidence.
• Flexibility in duties and location of work where the practice requires.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of patients presenting with a wide range of primary care health needs.
• Carry out surgery consultations, telephone consultations and home visits in line with the practice timetable.
• Make autonomous clinical decisions, assess undifferentiated problems and develop care plans with patients.
• Issue and sign repeat and acute prescriptions, prescribing in line with the formulary.
• Admit, discharge and refer patients internally and externally as appropriate.
• Support trainers and give clinical supervision to training doctors.
• Provide on‑call cover, answering patient telephone queries and carrying out emergency home visits.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, data collection and clinical standard setting.
• Keep clear, contemporaneous IT consultation notes and handle paperwork and correspondence promptly.
• Screen patients for disease risk factors and early illness, and provide counselling and health education.
• Contribute to practice planning, policies, guidelines and decision making with the team.
• Attend training, practice meetings and events, and meet audit and return deadlines.
