Job summary

Plumpton College is seeking an Associate Cover Lecturer to provide pre-planned lessons during staff absences, across multiple curriculum areas. You will ensure continuity of learning, supervise classes and use resources provided by curriculum teams to maintain teaching standards.

The role is bank/as-and-when, with standard hours outside and beyond core shifts; you will collaborate with Curriculum Managers, HR and support staff to organise effective cover and support mixed-ability groups.

Qualifications

• PGCE or Level 4+ teaching qualification (or equivalent).
• Ability to deliver lessons across a wide range of curriculum areas.
• Strong classroom management skills and confidence supporting mixed-ability learners.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting.
• Experience using MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
• Good understanding of SEND and inclusive classroom practice.
• Excellent communication, organisation and time-management skills.
• Ability to supervise learners aged 14-16 and 16+.
• Experience of, or familiarity with, the further education environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality cover lessons to a consistently good or outstanding standard.
• Supervise classes, allocate and explain cover work, and support students throughout lessons.
• Utilise centralised resources and materials provided by the curriculum teams.
• Report any issues with cover work, including quality or suitability, to Curriculum Managers.
• Communicate effectively with staff to ensure consistency and continuity of learning.
• Complete registers promptly and report student absence in line with College policy.
• Follow the College's behaviour management and safeguarding procedures.
