Job summary

James Cropper in Burneside is seeking a skilled Garage Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and mobile equipment, ensuring safety, reliability and operational readiness. You will diagnose faults, perform planned and reactive maintenance, record asset history in our maintenance systems and collaborate with operators, suppliers and contractors to keep our operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
• Apprentice-trained background in motor vehicle technology.
• Experience maintaining HGVs, trailers, forklifts or mobile plant equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Welding experience using gas or electric welding methods.
• Good understanding of vehicle legislation, environmental requirements and health & safety standards.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across our fleet and mobile plant.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Record maintenance activities and asset history through our maintenance management systems.
• Support continuous improvement activities focused on safety, efficiency and equipment reliability.
• Work closely with operators, suppliers and contractors to keep our operations running smoothly.
• Provide cover for the Garage Chargehand Mechanic when required.
