Job summary

Royal Mail in Warrington is recruiting a Workshop Shift Supervisor for our North West Hub. This permanent role offers full-time hours (39.5 per week), rotating shifts, and additional overtime with a shift allowance.

You will lead a team of vehicle technicians, ensure safety, quality and compliance, and coordinate workshop activities to meet delivery schedules. You’ll need Level 3 qualification in light/heavy vehicles, strong leadership, and a valid UK driving license.

Qualifications

• Experienced leader with team management and H&S knowledge.
• Fully qualified to Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent.
• Experience as vehicle technician on LCV/HGV.
• Valid UK driving license (manual); HGV license preferred.
• Flexible to service demands and shift rota.

Responsibilities

• Lead operations across a shift in line with production planning and control.
• Deliver weekly team meetings and shift huddles.
• Oversee stock control and ensure work orders and vehicle docs meet legal requirements.
• Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs as needed.

We are now recruiting Workshop Shift Supervisors at the Noth West Hub on a Permanent contract, with optional overtime and shift allowance.

Working Hours: Full time - 39.5 hours per week. rotating shift pattern:

Week 1 06:00 - 14:24 Monday - Friday
Week 2 06:00 - 14:24 Monday - Wednesday plus Saturday and Sunday
Week 3 13:00 - 21:24 Monday - Friday

A bit about the role

With a Fleet of over 49,000 vehicles, including traditional fuel and electric vehicles, LCVs and HGVs, maintaining our vehicles is a true team effort. Reporting to the Fleet Workshop Manager, the Shift Supervisor provides a pivotal supporting role to the Workshop management team. Responsible for leading operations across a shift in line with production planning and control requirements, you’ll deploy agreed processes and staff resources to ensure the Workshop operates safely and delivers high levels of quality and efficiency.

• You’ll be first line leadership delivering Weekly Team Meetings, shift huddles and have involvement in the remedial approach to conduct issues whilst ensuring a Technicians’ wellbeing following return from sick absence.
• You’ll perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment, when required.
• You’ll use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair light / heavy goods vehicles.
• You’ll also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.
• You’ll perform effective stock control processes, ensuring accurate and timely completion of work orders and associated vehicle documentation to meet both business and legal requirements.

A bit about you

• Experienced leader: you’ve managed a team of vehicle technicians with excellent knowledge of H&S and have the ability to communicate technical issues to the team.
• Qualified mechanic: you’re fully qualified to an advanced level (Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent). You’ve got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
• Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for example LCV / HGV.
• Valid UK driving license: You hold a full manual UK driving license, preferably an HGV license with trailer experience.
• High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
• Flexible to service demands: you’re able to work on a flexible shift rota. You’re always willing to support your team where necessary.
