ScottishPower in Glasgow seeks a Fleet Compliance Engineer to assist in controlling vehicle risks and ensuring roadworthiness for a 1,500-vehicle fleet. The role covers inspections, audits, and Operator Licence adherence, with a focus on safety and compliance across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Support Fleet HS&E controls implementation UK-wide.
  • Audit vehicle records to ensure compliance with Operator Licence requirements.
  • Inspect HGV and LCV vehicles in the field for safe maintenance.
  • Escalate safety or compliance issues to management and partners.
  • Develop reporting on fleet risk indicators across the group.
  • Educate drivers on reducing vehicle and compliance risk.

Fleet Compliance EngineerScottishPower HQ, Glasgow (hybrid)Salary up to £43,500 + excellent benefitsFull-time, permanent position (happy to talk flexible working)Closing date – Monday 12th of OctoberHelp us create a better future, quicker!The Fleet Compliance Engineer will assist the Lead Operations Manager in the control of all vehicle risks in relation to ScottishPower delivering its Operator Licence statutory requirements as set out by the DVSA.The Fleet Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the roadworthiness of ScottishPower’s fleet of 1,500 vehicles including but not limited to vehicle inspection, maintenance record auditing, vehicle and driver safety, monitoring of contracted service delivery standards (and challenging such standards when required), vehicle environmental condition, and Operator License processes adherence and compliance.What you’ll be doingSupport the implementation of the Fleet HS&E controls across the ScottishPower Businesses, including a UK wide fleet compliance audit programmeImplement audit practices to demonstrate vehicle record compliance in line with Operator License and statutory obligationsInspect vehicles (HGV and LCV) in the field to ensure that maintenance activities have been professionally, safely, and competently undertakenEscalate areas of concern, defects, etc to the Lead Operations Manager, Senior Managers, and external supply chain partnersIdentify immediate safety and/or compliance issues and, if required, prohibiting the use of a vehicle; confidently communicating such prohibition to the customer and standing behind the decisionDevelop an escalation process to enable effective management information reporting that identifies major fleet risk elements and trends with risk indicators across the groupDevelop relationships with internal ScottishPower customers in order to educate drivers in their responsibility in reducing vehicle and compliance riskWork closely with drivers to embed auditable processes and policies to ensure vehicles are legal and roadworthy in line with the Traffic Commissioners “Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness”Support the management of outsourced service providers by assisting towards continuous improvement across all areas of service delivery to ensure all statutory, contractual, commercial and performance objectives are fully satisfiedWhat you’ll bringExperience of managing vehicle compliance for a commercial fleetExperience in vehicle risk management processes and policy informationExperienced in health, safety, and environmental management, with the ability to respond to H&S risks and or fleet emergency responseProven ability to build credibility, independently and constructively challenge the driver population towards best practice in line with General Services Fleet policyAbility to influence and encourage behavioural changeAbility to assess, prioritise and confidently make the right decision in a dynamic service environmentGood report writing skills with the ability to analyse dataIdeally you will be working towards a certificate of Professional Competence for Transport ManagementNEBOSH is highly desirableMinimum CriteriaExperience of managing vehicle compliance for a commercial fleetOperator Licence Awareness (for example, Logistics UK eOLAT)Technically qualified in motor vehicle maintenance and repair or equivalent experienceGood understanding of health, safety and environmental parameters impacting Fleet management servicesStrong communications skillsSpecial RequirementsFlexibility to work out-with normal working hours in response to vehicle compliance checking and user responsibilitiesFlexibility to work in locations out-with normal working locationMust hold a UK Drivers LicenseWhat’s in it for youAs well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits.
