Job summary
United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust have a vacancy for a full time Consultant in General Anaesthesia. On-call duties for this Consultant postwill be based at Pilgrim Hospital however post-holders will be expected to operate flexibly across all hospital sites. The Department of Anaesthesia at ULTH is accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Any Consultant who is unable to work full time will be considered. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussedand negotiated on an individual basis.
Main duties of the jobThe Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive on-call General Anaesthetic service atPilgrim Hospital, and provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
Successful candidates will be expected to provide cross cover across all sites of ULTH.
He/she will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical governance programme in operation within the Department and to take part in regional and national audits and participate in service improvement. He/she will also be required to report all critical incidents and expected toattend regularly Clinical Audit, Critical Incident Reporting, Morbidity & Mortality and Anaesthetic Departmental Team meetings.
He/she will be expected to undertake clinical supervision of Foundation, Core or Specialty trainees including workplace assessment, feedback andcommunication with educational supervisors as appropriate.The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department. Involvement inresearch where appropriate is encouraged.
He/she will be encouraged to participate in management duties within the Department and the organisation.

Pilgrim Hospital is a modern District General Hospital providing a full range of clinical specialities to a catchment population of 210,000.It is a newly developed large and modern complex, which caters for most of themajor specialties and has 369 beds.
Boston is the site for major vascular surgery for Lincolnshire. The hospital provides beds for general surgery, vascular surgery, urology,trauma & orthopaedic surgery, ENT, breast, ophthalmology, paediatrics, maxillo-facial surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology.
The hospital has an Accident and Emergency Department, a Medical Admissions Unit, a combined ITU/HDU with 9 funded beds.
