Job summary

Wabtec in Peterborough is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to perform inspection, maintenance and repair on freight train components in a hands-on, on-site setting. You will diagnose issues, replace parts, and work with a team to keep trains safe and reliable.

Ideal candidates have Level 3 Mechanical/Electrical qualifications and proven fitter experience, strong mechanical knowledge, plus the ability to read drawings and manuals with high attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Mechanical or Electrical qualification.
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and components.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance tasks on freight train components.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to minimise downtime.

What will your typical day look like?
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance tasks on freight train components.
