Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Fitness Instructor to lead training and coaching for military and civilian personnel at RAF Henlow in Bedfordshire. The role focuses on delivering engaging fitness programmes, supporting rehabilitation, and maintaining facilities to enhance operational readiness.

You’ll work 37 hours weekly on-site, with a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification and strong communication skills. The position offers progressive development within a defence and engineering organisation.

The role

As a Fitness Instructor, you'll play a vital role in supporting the physical wellbeing of military and civilian personnel. You'll deliver engaging fitness programmes, provide one-to-one coaching, support rehabilitation activities, and help maintain first-class sports facilities. This is a rewarding position where you'll directly contribute to operational effectiveness while developing your own skills and experience within a leading defence and engineering organisation.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

• Deliver physical training sessions for military and civilian personnel.
• Develop and support individual fitness and reconditioning programmes.
• Maintain sports facilities, fitness equipment, and associated resources.
• Manage sports stores and ensure equipment and kit are available and serviceable.
• Promote health, wellbeing, and fitness initiatives across the station.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Henlow, Bedfordshire.

Essential experience of the Fitness Instructor

• Experience working in a fitness, health, wellbeing, or sports environment.
• Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Supporting and encouraging health and wellbeing improvement.
• Using Microsoft Office applications and other computer systems confidently.
• Adopting a flexible and proactive approach to work and personal development.

Qualifications for the Fitness Instructor

• Level 2 Fitness Instructor Qualification

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
