Job Description:

Fire Safety Officer

Location: The role would predominantly cover the south of the UK, focusing on prime locations around the M4 Corridor: Oxford, Romford, Swindon, and areas inside or just outside the M25.

Position Details: Permanent, full-time position: 37.5 hours/week
Salary range: £40,000 per annum, increasing to £42,000 upon approval to carry out fire risk assessments across the portfolio.

This role offers a hybrid working pattern with travel across South England. A role-specific car will be provided, and flexible working options are available.

Role Overview:

As a Fire Safety Officer, you will ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 by conducting risk assessments and surveys to safeguard our premises. We are seeking a candidate with experience in fire safety or fire management, capable of implementing fire safety policies across multiple properties, and advocating for fire safety within our community. Training for Level 4 diploma fire risk assessing can be provided if needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed fire safety risk assessments for up to 200 sites, including residential care homes, offices, dental practices, and clinics.
  • Perform detailed surveys of fire precautions, both passive and active.
  • Complete fire door surveys as instructed by the senior fire advisor.
  • Liaise with property and practice managers, providing guidance on findings and necessary actions.
  • Conduct post-fire inspections when required.
  • Maintain responsibility for fire safety compliance across all sites.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Regulations – Approved Document B, and CLG Fire Safety Guides.
  • Strong stakeholder management and effective communication skills at all levels.
  • Proficiency in IT tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Knowledge of British Standards related to fire safety (e.g., BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 5306, BS 9251, BS 9999).

Required Qualifications:

  • Fire Safety modules or equivalent qualifications, including fire risk assessment certifications from the Fire Service College or similar courses (e.g., BTEC, NEBOSH).
  • Degree in Fire Safety, Fire Engineering, or related field is advantageous.
  • Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers or equivalent (e.g., IFSM).
