Job summary

Ipswich Borough Council is seeking a Fire Safety Manager for its Housing Maintenance and Contracts service to ensure fire safety compliance across around 8,000 homes, including sheltered schemes and homeless units. The role focuses on delivering fire safety strategies and managing improvements under new contracts.

You will oversee checks, provide fire engineering advice, line-manage a Fire Safety Surveyor, and work within a wider safety and compliance team in a hybrid working arrangement.

Qualifications

• Relevant fire safety qualifications required.
• Proven experience in a fire safety role, ideally in social housing or residential setting.
• Strong knowledge of current fire safety legislation and good practice.

Responsibilities

• Make sure the housing stock meets all fire safety legislation and regulatory standards.
• Oversee ongoing fire safety checks, testing, inspection and maintenance.
• Keep housing assets maintained in line with the new fire safety strategies.

Fire Safety Manager - Housing | Ipswich | Permanent

Salary: £53,051 - £55,224 per annum

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk (hybrid working available)

Contract: Permanent, full time

About the role

We are recruiting a Fire Safety Manager for a local authority in Ipswich. The role sits within its Housing Maintenance and Contracts service, one of its largest front-line services. You will make sure the council stays fully compliant on fire safety across about 8,000 homes, including 15 sheltered schemes and 4 homeless families units. This is an exciting time to join: new fire safety strategies have just been adopted and major fire safety improvement contracts have recently been awarded.

Key responsibilities

• Make sure the housing stock meets all fire safety legislation and regulatory standards
• Oversee ongoing fire safety checks, testing, inspection and maintenance
• Keep housing assets maintained in line with the new fire safety strategies
