Job summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking a Fire Safety Engineering Lead for Submarines to guide fire safety strategy across nuclear and conventional infrastructure within the Derby area and satellite sites. The role involves ensuring fire safety requirements are embedded in design, construction and operation of submarine-related facilities.

You will pro-actively provide expert guidance, liaise with Design Authorities and maintainers, and represent Rolls-Royce in industry Fire Safety forums while ensuring

Qualifications

  • Member of Institute of Fire Engineers or Fire Safety Managers.
  • Level 4 Diploma, equivalent of above in fire related topic.
  • Proven experience in Fire Safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Approved Document to Part B of the Building regulations, BS 9999, as well as best practice approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively provide advice and guidance on fire safety requirements to stakeholders.
  • Provide design and build assurance to Submarines infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Fire Safety requirements in design and modification of facilities.
  • Assure safe operation, inspection and maintenance of Fire Safety plant and equipment.
  • Advise Responsible Persons to ensure appropriate Fire Safety provisions across premises and manufacturing plant.
  • Represent Rolls-Royce in Nuclear Industry Fire Safety committees.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Engineering Lead to join the Infrastructure Design Authority (IDA) at Raynesway in Derby and supporting satellite sites. This is an exciting time to join us as we are undertaking a significant redevelopment and expansion, to provide new buildings and infrastructure in support of propulsion systems for submarines in the Royal Navy and Australia.

As the Fire Safety Engineering Lead you will be the Subject Matter Specialist for Fire Safety for Rolls Royce Submarines properties, supporting delivery of Fire Engineering Intelligent Customer role for Rolls Royce Submarines.

What you will be doing:
  • Pro-actively providing advice and guidance on fire safety requirements/ standards to a variety of stakeholders, whilst working closely with relevant Design Authorities, designers and maintainers regarding design, installation/construction, maintenance, operation and modification of nuclear and conventional Infrastructure and plant.
  • Providing design and build assurance to all Submarines infrastructure projects inclusive of nuclear and conventional projects.
  • Assuring both Rolls-Royce and Regulatory Fire Safety requirements have been appropriately incorporated into the design and modification of new/existing conventional and nuclear facilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Assuring the safe operation, inspection and maintenance of the Fire Safety plant and equipment operated by RRSL, ensuring that this plant and equipment is available at all times throughout the assets lifecycle in relation to nuclear and conventional spaces.
  • Providing guidance and advice to Responsible Person(s) (as defined by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) to assure the correct level of Fire Safety provision is applied to premises and manufacturing plant across the Submarines business. This should be addressed in terms of life safety, property protection and business interruption.
  • Representing Rolls-Royce through participating as a member of the Nuclear Industry Fire Safety Co-ordinating Committee and other appropriate industry working groups and cross industry bodies.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
