Job Title: Fire Safety Advisor

Location: Central London

Working Hours: 4 days per week

Salary: From £48k, pro rata

About the Role

Are you a qualified Fire Safety professional looking for a flexible part-time role in a dynamic and prestigious environment?

We are recruiting for an experienced Fire Safety Advisor to work on-site at a major university campus in Central London. This part time post is to provide competent fire safety advice across 3 campuses and occasional external sites. You will develop and maintain fire safety strategies and plans across the University in line with HSW policy and associated procedures. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining fire safety compliance, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong fire safety culture across a diverse estate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert fire safety advice and guidance to staff, students, and contractors across all sites.
  • Ensure our client meets its legal, moral, and financial obligations in all fire safety matters.
  • Support the Head of Risk, Resilience & Safety in developing and implementing the Fire Safety Strategy.
  • Design and deliver Fire Safety and Awareness Training for staff and students.
  • Write fire safety compliance reports for the Executive Board, including lessons learned from incidents and public inquiries.
  • Develop site-specific Fire Safety Management Systems and update regularly.
  • Lead investigations into all fire safety incidents and near-misses.
  • Carry out fire audits and inspections across all buildings.
  • Advise on the Fire Safety Policy and Incident Response Procedures.
  • Develop and maintain Fire Evacuation Plans for all campus buildings.
  • Manage and report on termly fire drills.
  • Advise Technical Services staff on DSEAR and general Fire Safety Risk Assessments.
  • Create and maintain fire safety content on the intranet for internal guidance.
  • Work with the Deputy Director of Estates to review Fire Risk Assessments and assist in remedial action planning.
  • Support the Estates Compliance Operations Manager on matters related to Fire Protection Systems and Fire Safety Engineering.
  • Advise the Estates Head of Project Management on building design compliance with fire safety and Building Regulations.
  • Provide fire safety guidance for external venues used for events and exhibitions.
  • Liaise with London Fire Brigade (LFB) and external stakeholders on audits and inspections.

Person Specification

The ideal Fire Safety Advisor will have:

  • Diploma-level qualification in fire safety (or equivalent)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as IFE or IFSM
  • Strong knowledge of relevant fire legislation and standards including: Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, British Standards and Approved Document B
  • Experience managing fire safety across complex, multi-site environments
  • Proven experience in: Developing and delivering fire safety training, Creating and publishing fire safety guidance and Conducting and advising on DSEAR risk assessments
  • Strong ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Able to work independently and use own initiative
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Demonstrable commitment to equality, , and with sensitivity to working in a multicultural environment
