Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Fire Engineer to conduct internal fire studies across Nuclear Island buildings, ensuring safety functions and regulatory compliance under UK codes. The role supports design, risk assessment, and collaboration with systems and layout teams.

You will analyse materials, perform temperature-change simulations (MAGIC), contribute to design changes, and prepare deliverables in line with project plans. A engineering degree and knowledge of UK Fire Regulations (BS9999) are required.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent in safety/fire protection.
• Knowledge of Nuclear safety, especially fault studies.
• Familiarity with ETC-F (EPR Technical Code for Fire) is advantageous.
• Knowledge of UK Fire Regulations including BS9999.
• Ability to perform fire protection calculations and to use calculation tools.
• Ability to propose fire protection and detection solutions.

Responsibilities

• Characterise and analyse combustible materials and their risks.
• Perform temperature change calculations over time for a simulated fire using MAGIC.
• Study risk of damage to systems and address common-mode issues for Nuclear Safety.
• Provide technical support to systems and layout teams on Fire matters.
• Contribute to Design Change assessments and their impact on Fire studies.
• Perform regulatory assessment for fire life safety.
• Recommend protection solutions to prevent fire outbreaks.
• Prepare and monitor deliverables in line with project planning and quality processes.
• Participate in committees to provide Fire safety perspective.

Amentum are currently looking to recruit a Fire Engineer who will conduct internal fire studies on all the Nuclear Island (NI) buildings, to ensure that safety functions are still carried out in the event of a fire occurring within the plant and that the conventional safety requirements related to UK codes and standards are implemented.

Key responsibilities

• Characterise and analyse various combustible materials present in each area and their risks.
• Perform temperature change calculations over time for a simulated fire (modelling of various situations using the MAGIC software) to identify the consequences of a fire and the risk of propagation.
• Study the risk of damage to certain systems through detailed analyses to identify and address common mode issues for Nuclear Safety.
• Provide Technical support to systems and layout teams for all questions related to Fire, participating in resolving potential issues or infeasibilities
• Contribute to potential modifications (Design Change), assessing the potential impact on the Fire studies.
• Perform regulatory assessment for fire life safety
• Recommend protection solutions to prevent an outbreak of fire or to make it improbable.
• Prepare and monitor issuance of deliverable you are responsible for in consistency with the project planning and in accordance with the quality process.
• Participate in Committees and Taskforces when required to provide Fire safety perspective and advice and represent the NS&E discipline, when required.

Education, Skills & Experience

• Engineer qualified to degree level or equivalent specialising in safety and/or fire protection studies/technologies
• Knowledge in Nuclear safety, especially in Fault studies.
• Knowledge of ETC-F (EPR Technical Code for Fire) would be appreciated
• Experience and knowledge of UK Fire Regulations including BS9999
• Calculations relating to fire protection and ability to work with calculation tools.
• Ability to propose fire protection and detection solutions.
• The postholder should be conscientious, enthusiastic about the subject with good interpersonal skills.
