Job summary

EDF in Bridgwater, near Hinkley Point C, seeks a Fire Safety Engineer to shape fire safety foundations for the first new nuclear station in a generation. You’ll develop governance and operational readiness, lead risk assessments, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure readiness and compliance.

Offering a starting salary of £67,000, the role is onsite at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, with exposure to regulatory and WANO activities and a chance to influence safety culture across the project

Qualifications

• Experience in fire management and fire safety design in complex industrial or nuclear environments.
• Ability to develop fire safety governance and operational readiness documents.
• Knowledge of UK fire safety legislation including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
• Experience supporting WANO reviews and readiness activities.
• Experience conducting Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Hazard Analyses in commissioning or operations.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to implement fire protection programs.
• Able to meet UK residency security vetting requirements (3 of last 5 years).

The Opportunity

As a Fire Safety Engineer you'll play a vital role in preparing Hinkley Point C for safe and successful operations. Working within the Commissioning and Operations programme, you'll help establish fire safety management arrangements, governance, and operational readiness activities that support one of the UK's most significant energy projects and EDF's journey towards An Electric Britain.

You'll join us on a salary starting of £67,000 per annum. This is an onsite role based at #HinkleyPointC, #Bridgwater, where you'll work closely with operational, engineering, and regulatory stakeholders to support startup readiness and long‑term compliance.

This is an opportunity to influence how fire safety is embedded across a new nuclear power station. From supporting WANO readiness activities and fire prevention programmes to developing operational documentation, fire protection arrangements, and emergency response planning, your expertise will help shape the future operation of the station.

Who You Are

We're looking for an experienced Fire Safety Engineer who enjoys providing specialist guidance, collaborating across teams, and improving fire safety performance within complex industrial or high‑hazard environments. Are you experienced in…?

• Fire management and fire safety design within a complex industrial, nuclear, or high-hazard environment
• Developing fire safety management arrangements, governance frameworks, and operational fire safety documentation
• Interpreting and applying UK fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and associated regulations
• Supporting or participating in World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) reviews and operational readiness activities
• Conducting Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Hazard Analyses within commissioning or operational environments
• Working with multiple stakeholders to implement fire prevention, compliance, and fire protection programmes
• Producing fire safety documentation and arrangements that support operational readiness and regulatory compliance

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
