Job summary

Arcona Group Ltd. is seeking an Intermediate Fire Engineer to deliver fire engineering and building safety consultancy across residential, commercial, healthcare and education projects.

You will collaborate with clients, design teams and regulators to craft compliant, risk-based fire safety solutions. The role involves preparing Fire Strategy Reports, reviewing designs to UK standards, conducting compartmentation surveys and site inspections, and liaising with architects and authorities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, Engineering or related discipline.
• 2–5 years' experience in a Fire Engineering Consultancy or Building Safety environment.
• Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and fire safety legislation.
• Knowledge of passive fire protection and compartmentation principles.
• Experience producing technical reports and client-facing documentation.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Fire Strategy Reports for new-build and refurbishment projects.
• Review designs against Approved Document B and relevant British Standards.
• Undertake compartmentation surveys and passive fire protection assessments.
• Review fire stopping, cavity barriers and fire-resistant construction details.
• Conduct site inspections and construction-stage compliance reviews.
• Assess means of escape, firefighting access and fire service facilities.
• Prepare technical reports, fire statements and regulatory submissions.
• Liaise with architects, contractors, developers and approval authorities.
• Review architectural drawings and specifications for fire safety compliance.
• Provide advice on remediation and risk mitigation strategies.
• Assist with fire risk appraisals and existing building assessments.
• Participate in project meetings and multidisciplinary design reviews.
• Support senior engineers on complex fire engineering projects.

About the Role

Desirable

• Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or working towards chartership.
• MSc in Fire Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience of high-rise residential and complex buildings.
• Knowledge of smoke control systems and evacuation strategies.
• Experience supporting Building Safety Act and Gateway submissions.
