Job Title: Fire & Security Engineer

Location: Yarl’s Wood Immigration Centre, Bedfordshire

About the Role

We are seeking a Fire & Security Engineer to join our Facilities Services Team at Yarl’s Wood Immigration Centre. The successful candidate will report to the Facilities Manager and work alongside a team of multi-skilled engineers to maintain security systems, fire detection, and life safety equipment, ensuring compliance with all health and safety legislations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform reactive and preventative maintenance on security systems, fire detection, and life safety equipment.
2. Investigate system performance issues and produce reports with recommendations.
3. Assist in specifying and obtaining spare parts and equipment to ensure continuous operation.
4. Maintain and update pre-planned maintenance schedules.
5. Support other team members with multi-trade tasks.

Qualifications and Experience

Ideal candidates will have prior experience in a similar role, with the ability to quickly adapt and assist in multi-trade support. Relevant certifications or licenses, such as electrical/electronic ONC or equivalent, are preferred. Proven experience installing, testing, commissioning, and servicing IP & Analogue CCTV Systems, Access Control, Intruder Detection, and Fire Alarm Systems is essential. Key knowledge includes:

• Fire Protection Industry
• Large Security Systems
• BS EN Alarm, CCTV, Access Control, Fire Detection Standards
• IPAF Licences
• Safe Systems of Work

Proactive, customer-focused, and committed to continuous improvement. Ability to prioritize, work independently and adhere to tight deadlines. Effective communicator at all levels and flexible to work out of hours and provide technical support via telephone as needed.
