Job summary

Howcroft Executive Search Ltd is seeking an experienced Small Works & Service Engineer for East Lancashire and surrounding North West areas. The role focuses on small installations, fault resolution and remedial repairs across fire and security systems for commercial customers.

You will diagnose faults, perform minor installations, test and commission after works, and maintain detailed service records while working within safety standards and company procedures.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Carry out small works, minor installations, system upgrades and remedial repairs.
• Diagnose faults and rectify defects across fire alarm and electronic security systems.
• Undertake corrective maintenance, component replacements and system modifications.
• Test and commission systems following repairs or installation works.
• Work across systems including fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms and access control.
• Complete accurate service reports, defect documentation and records of work undertaken.
• Identify further remedial requirements and communicate recommendations to customers.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant standards, regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain professional relationships with customers and contribute to high service levels.
• Participate in the company's call-out rota.

Salary: Up to £40,000 basic + travel time

Are you an experienced Fire & Security Engineer looking for a role focused on small works, remedial repairs and fault resolution?

We are recruiting on behalf of an established fire and security business for a Small Works & Service Engineer covering East Lancashire and the surrounding North West areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving system faults and delivering a high standard of service to commercial customers.

You will be responsible for carrying out small installations, system modifications, defect repairs and remedial works across a range of fire and security systems, ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably and in line with relevant industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out small works, minor installations, system upgrades and remedial repairs.
• Diagnose and rectify faults and defects across fire alarm and electronic security systems.
• Undertake corrective maintenance, component replacements and system modifications.

• Complete accurate service reports, defect documentation and records of work undertaken.

• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant standards, regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain professional relationships with customers while delivering excellent service.
• Participate in the company's call-out rota.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in a Fire & Security Engineering role.
• Practical experience carrying out fault finding, remedial repairs and small works.
• Knowledge of fire alarm and electronic security systems, such as CCTV, intruder alarms and access control.
• A methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently on customer sites.
• A professional attitude with a strong focus on quality, safety and customer satisfaction.
• A full UK driving licence.
• Relevant technical qualifications or an apprenticeship in fire and security engineering would be advantageous.
