Job summary

FMS Fire and Security Ltd is seeking a design manager to lead fire and security system design from concept through to completion in the Edinburgh/Glasgow area. You will ensure compliance, quality, efficiency and commercial success while guiding the design team.

You will drive design improvements, manage costs, and support project delivery with CAD-focused expertise and collaboration with project managers.

Qualifications

• Experience in designing fire and security systems.
• Strong commercial awareness and experience of competitive tenders.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of both fire and security systems using 2D and 3D CAD modelling.
• Support preparation of design costings, technical submissions and tender documentation.
• Assist relevant project managers and other team members as needed.
• Provide technical knowledge and support to design peers and project teams.
• Produce detailed component drawings and CAD outputs.
• Review tender packages to ensure compliance with specifications and material selections.

These systems incorporate Fire Detection, Fire Extinguishing Systems, Intruder Alarms, Closed Circuit Television, Access Control, Emergency Lighting and Voice Evacuation Systems, as well as Gates, Barriers, Turnstiles, Cabling and Security Lighting.

Role Overview

This is more than a design management role. You will have the opportunity to influence business strategy, develop design standards, mentor and grow the design team, and play a key role in supporting FMS's continued expansion

You will take overall responsibility for the design function, leading fire and security system designs from concept through to completion while ensuring compliance, quality, efficiency and commercial success.

Ensuring that designs and costs are issued promptly and in such a way that project installations go smoothly. You will lead a design team focused on design improvements ensuring compliance with Industry Standards and to support the development of design team.

Key Responsibilities

• To lead the design of both fire and security systems - using both 2D and 3D CAD modelling software

• Provide technical knowledge and support.
• Produce detailed component / Cad drawings.
