Job description

Perfect role for a senior professional looking to grow their Financial Services career in Cardiff.

Cardiff's Financial Services sector has quietly become one of the UK's busiest fintech corridors, with challenger banks, payments firms and insurtech startups all competing for product talent outside London. This particular business is a fast-growing startup building tools for the sector, and it needs a FinTech Product Manager who can hold the roadmap together while the team is still working out what "process" means. You'll join at a stage where decisions get made fast and stick.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Own the product roadmap for a core fintech offering, from discovery through to launch and iteration
  • Translate regulatory and compliance requirements into practical product decisions, working closely with legal and risk
  • Run discovery with customers and internal stakeholders to validate what actually gets built next
  • Write clear specs and acceptance criteria that engineers can pick up without three follow-up meetings
  • Track product metrics and use them to argue for (or against) your own ideas
  • Present progress and trade-offs to founders and investors in plain terms, not slide-deck jargon
Here are the skills you’ll need:
  • Several years of product management experience within Financial Services or a closely adjacent regulated industry
  • Working knowledge of payments, lending, or banking infrastructure (you don't need to be an engineer, but you need to keep up with one)
  • A track record of shipping product in a startup or scale-up, where the org chart changes every quarter
  • Confident stakeholder management. You'll be the one saying no to good ideas because the timing's wrong
  • Comfort with ambiguity. Nobody will hand you a finished brief
  • Sharp written communication, because most of your influence will happen in documents, not meetings
Key perks and benefits:
  • Salary of £61,000 to £75,000, depending on experience
  • Equity in the business, so the upside is actually yours
  • Hybrid working from the Cardiff office, with flexible hours built around output rather than desk time
  • A genuine learning and development budget you're expected to use
  • Remote-friendly culture and a flat structure where you'll talk directly to founders, not layers of management
Why pursue a career in Financial Services?

Financial Services rewards people who can combine commercial judgement with technical fluency, and that combination is in short supply. Cardiff has built a strong cluster of fintech and insurtech employers over the past decade, which means a FinTech Product Manager based here has real options without needing to relocate to London. Progression in this field tends to quick for people who ship, not just plan.
