Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Financial Accountant with at least 3 years of post-qualification experience to join our dynamic finance team in Manchester. As a Financial Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in the preparation and reporting of all external financial information for our large, acquisitive group in the e-commerce sector. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the preparation of the group's statutory accounts and ensure the timely and accurate reporting of financial results across multiple jurisdictions.
External Reporting & Compliance:
- Lead the preparation of all external financial reporting to the US parent group in accordance with US GAAP, including consolidated financial statements and specific legal entity requirements.
- Ensure the timely and accurate submission of statutory accounts for the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, and Korea, maintaining compliance with local legal and tax requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of UK standalone and consolidated statutory accounts, including management of group consolidation processes.
Acquisition Accounting:- Manage the accounting for acquisitions and provide technical accounting advice on the treatment of acquisitions, disposals, and joint ventures.
- Ensure proper integration of acquisitions into the group reporting structure, including managing complex intercompany transactions and cross-border issues.
External Advisors Relationship:- Own and maintain relationships with external advisors and local auditors in jurisdictions outside of the UK, ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements and deadlines.
- Liaise with external tax and legal advisors to ensure financial reporting is in line with local regulations and international standards.
Audit Oversight:- Play a key role in leading the UK audit process with KPMG, ensuring a smooth and efficient audit and timely resolution of any issues.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external auditors to provide the necessary documentation and explanations required for the audit process.
GAAP and Technical Expertise:- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of UK GAAP and apply this knowledge to the preparation of statutory accounts.
- Good understanding of US GAAP and ability to navigate cross-reporting between UK and US accounting standards.
- Provide technical guidance on complex accounting issues, including the interpretation of new accounting standards and their impact on financial reporting.
Other Responsibilities:- Assist Management Accounting team in completion of month end close, including preparation and approval of month end journal entries.
- Preparing balance sheet reconciliations for areas of responsibility and reviewing reconciliations produced by junior members of staff.
- Support in completion of cash to revenue reconciliation on a monthly basis and assist Finance Manager with additional analysis of rec during Group Audit
- Manage, reconcile & review freight costs including drop ship accounting.
- Provide support and mentoring to junior members of the finance team, helping them develop their skills and knowledge
Essential Qualifications:- ACA/ACCA or equivalent qualification with at least 3 years of post-qualification experience.
- Strong experience in financial accounting, including the preparation of statutory accounts for multi-national, complex, and acquisitive groups.
- Excellent knowledge of UK GAAP, with a good understanding of US GAAP
- Experience managing external relationships, including liaising with auditors and legal/tax advisors.
Preferred Experience:- Previous experience in a large group, preferably in the e-commerce sector, with exposure to multi-country financial reporting and acquisition accounting.
- Knowledge of French, German, Spanish, Italian, Australian, and/or Korean statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience of managing a group audit process, particularly with a Big Four firm (KPMG, EY, PwC, or Deloitte).
Technical Skills:- Strong proficiency in financial systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience working with consolidation software and ERP systems
