Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Qualified Actuary to join our Retail Finance team as a Financial Performance Manager for the Retail Protection business.

In this role you provide valuable support to the business and assist with the ongoing management and optimisation of financial results, including IFRS17. This will include ensuring that the performance of the Retail Protection business is continuously monitored against key metrics, that robust financial controls and procedures are observed and that relevant Financial Performance MI is provided as required.

You will also disseminate complex financial information to a variety of stakeholders across the business (up to Director Level) in an effective and informative manner, ensuring that its presentation and analysis meet the wide background and experience of those stakeholders.

Whilst this role sits within our Retail Protection team, you do not need to have previous experience of RP to be successful and we are open to applications from various backgrounds.

This is a hybrid working opportunity that can be based from any of our Flagship UK Offices (London, Cardiff or Hove), which will allow you to work from both your home and the office so you can find a work/life balance that suits you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Monitoring the ongoing financial performance of the Retail Protection business against key metrics
  • Leveraging financial insights/data to recommend appropriate management actions and where appropriate challenging stakeholders on strategic and commercial decisions
  • Supporting the development of the financial analytical capabilities within the team to help understand and optimise key drivers of financial performance
  • Ensuring the timely production and communication of financial results and ensuring that they meet all group and regulatory standards
  • Reporting relevant MI to the business as required
  • Ensuring that financial controls and procedures are observed
  • Ensuring that all analysis, decisions made, and activity undertaken considers the fair treatment of our customers

Qualifications

Who we're looking for:

  • A Fully Qualified Actuary
  • Demonstrable experience working in a financial management/financial reporting environment (ideally within a Life office or consultancy) and having a good understanding/experience of various reporting metrics such as Solvency II & IFRS17
  • A broad understanding of Protection products, including the associated reporting metrics, risks and regulatory frameworks – would be highly advantageous
  • Strong experience in the use of Microsoft Excel, Prophet and DCS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and explain technical results to non-technical audiences. Ability to draft technical documentation (eg. assumption setting papers)
  • Good influencing ad stakeholder management skills
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to multi-task effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • The ability to work effectively both within a small team and independently as required

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:

  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance -related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
  • Generous pension contribution
  • Life assurance
  • Healthcare Plan
  • 27 days holiday, plus public holidays. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
  • Competitive family leave
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only)
  • There are the many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
  • In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart

Additional Information

At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all.

If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel.

We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time, term-time and job shares. Although some roles have limited flexibility due to customer demand, we accommodate requests when we can.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential and connection to our purpose.
