About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a strategic but also hands-on Finance Director. The Finance Director will provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring effective financial planning, management, and reporting to support the organisation’s objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for the financial and commercial performance.
  • A member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the Managing Director and Board on full financial performance to include actual and prospective outlooks.
  • Contribute to the definition and implementation of the business plan in collaboration with the wider senior leadership team.
  • Represent the organisation and manage its relationships with key financial stakeholders, including auditors, and banks.
  • Support, develop and lead a high performing, resilient and effective finance function that is capable of supporting the organisation’s aims and objectives.
  • Act as a strong commercial business partner to the Managing Director and the wider senior leadership team.
  • Develop and implement an ambitious and effective finance strategy aligned with the business plan and organizational values.
  • Provide financial modelling, risk profiling, and testing around critical areas of the business plan.
  • Create a strong financial governance structure to ensure information and data is prepared, accurate and sufficient to support strategic decision making at both senior leadership team and Board levels.
  • Take responsibility for statutory financial reporting and planning across the organisation.
  • Work closely with the organisation’s auditors and financial advisers to ensure robust practice across the whole function.
  • Ensure an appropriate and satisfactory system is in place for financial management reporting on a weekly/monthly basis to allow effective monitoring of the organisation’s performance against plans and budgets.
  • Evaluate the financial viability of planned non-revenue expenditure on capital purchases in accordance with parameters agreed by the Board.
  • Ensure appropriate and satisfactory systems are in place to meet financial and operating objectives.
  • Work closely with heads of departments across the organisation, to ensure standards of financial performance are understood and upheld by all employees.
  • Ensure effective systems of controls are in place throughout the organisation to manage both financial and non-financial risks.
  • Implement effective policies alongside a system of controls to monitor and manage compliance and adherence.
  • Take responsibility for the budget process from start to finish.
  • Ensure all necessary insurances are in place; including but not limited to employee, product, and public liability insurance.
  • Ensure the business complies with all legal and regulatory requirements applicable to its business and that appropriate and satisfactory systems are in place to monitor and manage compliance.
  • Develop consistent reporting structures that provide meaningful and timely information, enabling trend analysis and providing future performance indicators to give visibility on future performance.
  • Report to the Board and Managing Director regularly in both written and verbal form, providing them with information of sufficient quality, depth, and timeliness to enable effective assessment of the financial performance of the organisation.
  • Be an ambassador for the organisation by ensuring consistency in messaging to internal and external stakeholders.
  • All other tasks commensurate with the role.
Qualifications
  • Qualified finance professional (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) with significant post qualification experience.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Director within similar sized organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and risk management.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, strategic planning, and budget management at an executive level.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Commercially astute with effective decision making skills.
  • Strategically minded and able to contribute to strategy debates.
  • Experience managing finance for fast-growth businesses.
