Job summary

Inspired Thinking Group (ITG) in Birmingham is seeking a senior Financial Controller to own the group’s technology finance, delivering a clean month-end close, a robust balance sheet and strong controls across entities.

You will oversee Dutch statutory work with an external firm, supervise teams in the Netherlands and UK, and drive FP&A and reporting improvements while partnering with local sales and operations to strengthen financial acumen.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience in financial control or similar role.
  • Experience leading international accounting teams and coordinating cross-border financial activities.
  • Comfort with managing statutory, tax and VAT processes through external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close and close timetable with robust controls.
  • Maintain balance-sheet integrity and oversee consolidations and intercompany balances.
  • Oversee A/P and A/R with focus on cash balances; collaborate with Shared Services.
  • Coordinate Dutch statutory accounts and KvK filing with external firm.
  • Coordinate corporation tax and transfer pricing work with external firm.
  • Manage statutory audits and VAT/ICP submissions; ensure calendar deadlines.
  • Lead month/yr-end reporting, budgeting, variance analysis and management packs.
  • Develop financial models, KPIs and dashboards for data-driven decisions.
  • Line-manage Netherlands and UK accounting teams; drive systems improvements.
  • Drive process automation and transition transactional work to Shared Services.

Job description

The Financial Controller is a senior, controls-focused role sitting at the heart of the divisional finance function. Reporting to the Divisional Finance Director, you will own financial controlling fortheGroup's Technologybusiness- delivering a clean, timely month-end close and a well-controlled balance sheet.

You will alsooversee a global, functional P&L and have significant interaction with the Group Finance Team (also located in Birmingham).

You will coordinate thelocally requiredstatutory, tax and VAT work through a Netherlands finance lead and an external Dutch accountancy firm. This is a controls-firstrole butwill also require supporting ad-hoc work initiatives, as well as some FP&A activities as required.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Control & Month-End Close
  • Own the month-end close and reporting timetable for bothDutchentities in Sage Intacct, including journals, accruals, prepaymentsand reconciliations.Be a key point of contact to the Group team regarding Prophix (FP&A tool) upload and reconciliation.
  • Maintain balance-sheet integrity through timely reconciliations, review, provisioning and a robust controls framework.
  • Prepare consolidation inputs and manage group-GAAP / IFRS alignment and intercompany balances.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivablewith a focus oncashbalances.Workcollaborativelywith theBirmingham Shared Servicesteam, ensuringappropriatecontrolsare inplaceoveralltransactions.
  • Coordinate the externally-prepared Dutch statutory accounts (Dutch GAAP) and KvK(DutchChamber ofCommerce)filing with the external accountancy firm.
  • Coordinate corporation tax (Vpb) and support transfer-pricing requirements with the external firm.

  • Lead the production of month and year-end results for bothDutchentities, including management analysis highlighting variances, trends and impacts on the annual business plan and quarterly forecasts.
  • Prepare the budget, forecast, monthly variance analysis and management commentary, and produce board and management reporting packs.
  • Develop financial models and analysis to guide planning and decision-making, defining KPIs and dashboards that support data-driven decisions.
  • Partner with local Sales and operations, providing guidance to both finance and non-finance staff to enhance financial acumen across the business.

Requirements
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience in a financial control or similar role.
  • Proven financial controller experience, ideally across multiple or international entities.
  • Strong technical grounding in month-end close, balance-sheet control, consolidation and foreign-entity reporting.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with a proven ability to establish trust and credibility across all levels of an organisation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and tools, with a preference for candidates with experience in Sage Intacct or similar platforms, including close automation and controls.
  • Strong MS Excel skills.
  • Desirable(but notessential): SaaS /subscription based/recurring-revenue (ARR) experience, awareness of Dutch GAAP and Dutch tax/ VAT (not essential), and experience of shared-services or finance centralisation.
